Tradition
This paper collage is an unapologetic ode to rejecting the traditional nuclear family and societal expectations. At its heart, a pin-up style woman joyfully catches a ball, vibrant and playful, far from the confines of “the kitchen”. Her carefree expression stands in stark contrast to the shadowed, disappointed man gazing at her. She remains unaware, uninterested in his judgment, as she revels in her own freedom.
The words "rage" and "tradition" sit boldly between them, echoing the resistance against the outdated roles that have been imposed on women. Beneath them, an image of a kitchen acts as a reminder of these expectations, while a sad, red clown face beneath it captures the suffocating feeling of a life lived in conformity, especially if it wasn't chosen. At the bottom, a juiced cantaloupe stands as a playful yet powerful symbol of female sexuality, of embracing our desires and celebrating the fullness of womanhood—not confined to tradition, but expansive and alive.
